Step-by-Step Guide

1
Prepare the Stool Catcher

Place the paper stool catcher across the toilet seat. Ensure it is positioned securely to catch your stool sample.

The stool catcher prevents the specimen from falling into the toilet water, which could contaminate the sample.

2
Open the Collection Tube

Hold the collection tube upright and unscrew the GREEN cap. The cap has a collection stick attached to its end.

Important: Keep the tube upright to prevent spillage of the buffer solution inside.

3
Collect the Sample

Using the collection stick, scrape 4 portions of the stool in a crosswise motion.

DO
  • • Scrape 4 different areas in a cross pattern
  • • Cover only the grooves of the stick
  • • Sample from the surface of the stool
DON'T
  • AVOID bloody areas of the stool
  • • Don't collect excessive stool
  • • Don't dig deep into the stool

Critical: Avoid Bloody Areas

When sampling, avoid any visibly bloody areas of the stool. This ensures test reliability and accurate results.

4
Proper Stick Coverage

Only the grooves of the stick should be covered with feces. Do not overload the collection stick.

Correct

Thin layer covering only the grooves

Incorrect

Excessive stool covering entire stick

5
Close and Mix
  1. a.Replace the GREEN cap on the tube and screw it on tightly.
  2. b.Gently rock the collection tube back and forth until the specimen is fully dissolved in the buffer solution.
6

Before packaging, verify your stool specimen meets the acceptable criteria using the Bristol Stool Chart.

Acceptable specimens: Bristol Stool Score of less than 6 (Types 1-5)
